Replacement Key Cost?

Replacement Key Cost?
Hello all,
I just bought a TCH and have enjoyed reading these posts. Does anyone have any information about obtaining replacement keys? I've read some horror stories about the expense of replacements for similar cars, and I thought I would do some research before the inevitable happens.

Re: Replacement Key Cost?
I have seen a post somewhere that said they were upwards of $300 each and you have to go to a dealer to have them program or mate a new one to your car somehow. I don't know how accurate that is but needless to say I'll be holding on tight to the 2 I got with the car....

I wouldn't be at all surprised if they were $300 each. My husband's VW Jetta's keys are almost that expensive. Gone are the days when I can have a spare car key made at my local hardware store...

Re: Replacement Key Cost?
I believe the post several weeks back said if you lost BOTH keys and they had to match up with your car it was $300. It's considerably cheaper (but still mot cheap) if you simply have a copy made with an existing key available. This is pretty much the same with other cars that have the same types of key systems
