Default Steering Clicks

Does anybody notice clicking from the steering when making sharp left or right turns when backing up upon starting the car. I do not recall it doing this for the first couple of months, as always my dealer finds nothing unless you hand it to then like the console squeek.

Mine started clicking around 5000 miles. Search for another thread about
this problem. The poster even included the replacement part number and a picture of the part involved.

This is a defect.
It's difficult to get it to perform for service managers.
Ask to have a technician drive it as you ride shotgun.
Preferably, a technician who's replaced the same part on earlier model Camrys.
Here's the link to the thread:

Here's the part photo:

Here's the part number:

If you can't get them to hear/feel it at first, don't worry.
It will continue to get louder/rougher until they can't act like it's not happening.

Good luck!

There is a TSB for this for the previous generation Camry:

ST001-06 "Steering Intermediate Shaft Noise"

Pointing that out might help when you take it in....

I took your info to the dealer, I test drove it with them driving 2 times, they do not hear it and insist that that part would make a different noise. I left it with them 8 days. I am sure it is the same problem, I could not describe it any better. I have the 3 years plus the extended warranty period, hopefully it will get worse soon, they think I am nutsl.

Two suggestions:
1. Ask to have the mechanic/tech drive it instead of the Service Mgr. (as described above).
2. Go to another dealer
Good luck.

I guess I did not mention it, it was the mechanic who test drove it twice with me, unfotrunately I can not tell if he was feeling it because it is silent and if if a feel of the steering. I will give it some more time to see if it gets worse. Unfortunately the next dealer is 45 minutes one way and 1 hour the other. I may call on of the dealers to see if they have experience this before I go there.

Thank you for the sugestions.

This may be a strech but would you be able to provide your contacts name and phone number, I would like the service manager at my Toyota dealer to call yours. I just had my 4th unsucessful trip to my dealer for the same problem.

I don't hear any clicking in my steering, but I notice a definite feeling in the steering, especially when going left at highway speeds - a feeling like it skipped a tooth in a gear and the steering suddenly clicks into the next tooth. I realize we don't have teeth and splines gearing, it's just a similar feeling like the steering suddenly let go for a second. It started at around 6000 miles, but has not seemed to get worse at now 9000 miles.

Is this the same symptom as the 'click'?

Yes, but unfortunately nobody feels it but me, it has lost the smooth feeling, only difference is tha I feel it mostly to the right and I also feel it at slow speeds almost a stop and sharp wheel locking turns.
