TCH - Poor range on home link garage opener
Hi All,
My 07 TCH has a very poor range on the homelink universal garage opener. It works (i.e. opens and closes the door), but I literally have to pull to within inches of the door to open it. This happened suddenly -- I used to be able to open it from quite a distance back on the street. Also, the wife's Prius homelink has no issue opening from the normal range.
TIA!

ntguru,
Have you hung anything on your rearview mirror lately? How about something being placed in the "eyeglass" holder in the roof console? If both of those are negative, the transmitter might need to be replaced. Your dealer should be able to help in that case.

Georgia, both of those are good thoughts but I don't have anything hanging on the mirror and the same sunglasses have been in the holder since I bought the car. And the issue persists even if they are on my face, so I don't think RF interference is likely.
Looks like I'll be headed in to the dealer.

In this case, plastic rimmed sunglasses should be better than the metal rimmed type. Metal seems to attract the signal and you want the signal to go forward toward the garage door opener.

Not necessarily, sometimes metal placed nearby can affect the transmitter's RF beam pattern in a positive way. One never knows.

I'd call Homelink
They were very helpful when I couldn't figure out how to program my remote.
I'm sure they are familiar with all issues, including this one

Think of it this way. Remember the old oblong loop type 'long' uhf tv antennas. All those various length bars are directors absorbing the signal back toward the main receive element. I was referring to the wire rimmed glasses to act like a director attracting the garage door signal away from it's intended direction. Could be it's something else. It was just a passing thought on the metal glasses.
