Re: useless middle back headrest ???
I looked at the headrest and can't imagine that it blocks the vents from getting air. In my car, there's plenty of air back there, I have the 2008.

Safer, extra margin of safety there anyway.

Why would you place one in the middle? Just in case you happen to carry an adult every once in a while?

Re: useless middle back headrest ???
IF you have the kids seats semi-permanently mounted on each side, you just don't feel like moving it on the odd occasion that you are giving an adult a lift.
With 2 seats, it is easiest to have them both outboard. Yes it would be safer to have it in the center position, but when you have two, one will always have to be on the outside and you generally cannot put 2 side by side.

Re: useless middle back headrest ???
I guess my own experience in having to move child seats from one car to the next/other fairly often caused me to overlook the difficulty of moving a child seat from one position to another on the seemingly RARE conditions of need.

Re: useless middle back headrest ???
After searching this Forum for an answer to a simple question , I found this thread . I brought this 27 month old thread To The Top instead of opening a new thread. Instead of getting a simple answer , I read comments questioning my reasoning and comments addressing an issue not relative except for some issues over two years ago...
So I found the answer myself by looking at it. To remove the rear center headrest is very simple. On the right side of the base is a button - just press it in and pull the headrest up at the same time. My center headrest is now removed.

Re: useless middle back headrest ???
hello !
i am the one who started this message.
1) so after two years, i still did not find why the middle headrest does not have different position up.
2) the middle place is used by an adult only +-40 times (trip) a year.
with car seat, the problem is with the shoulder
there is less pb with booster seat ( thinner ).
and try to be on one side only of two kids. they do not want to share you.
you have to be in the middle anyway for that.
ps: for information ,
i was able to put two booster seat and one car seat in the middle..
ps2:
for vacation , i had two kids bicycle , one adult bicycle and a super joe trunk bike mount on the roof.
i just put a piece of wood on the roof rack and i put everything flat. ( need to remove some pedal )
