Default Winter Tires - recommendations?

It's still pretty warm here in the Calgary area, but the snow will start to fly in the coming months. What kind of winter/snow tires do you think would be good performers in fairly cold, snowy temperatures, for the TCH?

Your suggestions would be helpful...thanks.

You probably need ACTUAL snow tires in Calgary... However I'm pretty happy with my Nokian WRSUV's on my FEH. They are all season but are rated for severe service conditons in snow and ice. The advantage is that they are less of a hit for fuel economy than true snow tires and you don't have to change them. I haven't had them in the Michigan version of snow/ice yet but everyone says they are great... and they are fairly quiet even on dry pavement.

Other Nokians are studdable, but I don't think the WRSUV's are. They just came out with a WRSUV G2 as well that is supposed to be good.

I have a better idea. Move to Florida! The snow will NOT start to fly here any time soon...

Seriously though, even if you don't intend to buy from them, you can call Tire Rack's toll free numbers and ask their consultants. I've had pretty good luck with getting good info (and tires) from them. If you describe your driving conditions, preferences, and so forth, they'll be able to make a few valid suggestions. Good luck with it. Stay warm (I will be...).

Forest — If you search this forum, you'll see a number of recommendations for Michelin's new Primacy Alpin PA3 low-rolling-resistance snow tires.
