Nav System & Bluetooth

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
I'm getting tired of waiting for this, what kind of danger/consequences do I face if I start playing/experimenting with the two sets of line in wires? I was thinking of using one pair first if that doesn't work, I will try another?
But then the crimp-on connectors are permanent right? Once you insert them into the Pins, how do you pull them out if I'd connected the wrong wires?!

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
greenhybrider, please note that Tim K and I are talking about connecting an Ipod (or something similar) to the NAV's phone audio inputs. Those issues (stereo vs. mono) don't affect the Parrot.

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
By the way, there's a site selling Parrot Harness Kits designed for various vehicles:
http://www.parrotkits.com/donotcut.html
I'm already in touch with the seller to determine if one of their harness would work with the FEH NAV Radio without splicing, "vampiring" and connecting extra wires.

Would it help if any of the rest of us contact them too, to give the illusion that there might be a high demand for such a kit?

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
I just installed my Parrot 3100 last night at around 12:15. It took longer than I expected....mostly though it was trying to figure out where to put everything....especially the display unit and microphone.
Some things I realized.....
1. this kit includes a TON of wires, 90% of which you don't need. I actually cut the ground and two power wires from the one adapter since nothing else on it was needed. Unfortunately, the rest of the wires are attached to another bundle that you can't remove even though you only need 3 of them. I think the hardest part was just cramming all the wires back into the dash and getting the Nav unit to slide back in.
2. The little crimp-on sleeves are not the right size....at least not the ones I got from radio shack. They are actually for a computer cable (like a serial cable) and the Ford unit cable actually is designed for something a little larger. I was able to wedge them in place and tape them down so that they didn't slide out....but at first the connections were not tight. If I were doing it again I would try to find a slightly larger "sleeve" part. I made it work with a little fidgeting and I'm counting on it holding.
3. The "vampire clips" worked out great. I bought both sizes radioshack sells just to be sure but I only needed the red ones. I inserted the wires I clipped off of the parrot adapter, attached those to the power wires on the Nav unit and CLAMPED down with some pliers. Simple as that.
I took some pictures but realized that they don't really show anything much worth looking at. I'll post them later.
In all, I'm happy with the unit...it works and sounds pretty good. The display unit doesn't really "go well" anywhere on the dash. Maybe its just me but I hate having a thick black wire running anywhere visible. I ended up sticking it where the center console meets the dash and running the wire up from the driver's footwell along a gap between the dash and console. I ran the mic wire under the dash and brought it up the left side and mounted it on the back of my Sirius unit which sits in the lower left corner of the dash. Seems to work well and isn't really noticeable there.

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
Tim,
Post some pictures of the display unit location, if you get the chance. I put mine just right of the steering column. I can't see the display that well, but I use the voice features anyway so it works out well.

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
I put it just behind the shifter above the little compartment. I'll post a picture later. I can see it while driving and reach the buttons too. Its not perfect but I think it is the best place to mount it if you don't want the cluttered...wires everywhere...look.

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
My 3200ls saga is getting more and more perplexing. This is the email I received from Parrot.biz:
Does the guy know what he is talking about? If the line level is not used, then why bother to include them in the harness in the first place? Also why does the line level on 3100 work? Is he trying to sell parrot kits through these other vendors? Do they have a pact to cross-promote each other?
The line level connections will not be used. Those are non-amplified outputs & you would not get any sound out. Use the yellow mute cable with the bullet connector on it to connect to you phone mute. The easiest way to install the kit is to get a harness.

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
I emailed ParrotKits.com and they suggested the following harness (QCFor-1) for Parrot 3200LS on FEH but he is not sure whether it'll work:
Can anyone tell from the photos whether it'll work?

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
This is another photo from Installer.com showing how the 3200LS should be connected with "external harness" but I'm still waiting for them to get back to me with the correct model because they haven't used on an FEH before, hence not sure if it'd work.
If the Parrot kit is "big enough" already, imagine trying to fit all this into the dash?!!

Re: Nav System & Bluetooth
I doubt he knows what he is saying. They probably have a list of vehicles and instructions just like on the website and he is spitting out what he is reading. Whenever I have to email or talk to "support people" like that I never answer their questions and never tell them what the car is or what the application is....otherwise you get the standard answer. I would just tell them that "my radio has a line in + and a line in -.....and I want to install the 3200 using the line in connections NOT the speaker connections. Which set of line level wires should be connected: Line In 1p and Line In 2P - Red and White or Line In 1M and Line In 2M - Black and Brown."
I would also stress that other people with the same radio have installed the 3100 kit using line level inputs so you are sure that it will work.
