Re: 2011 Ford Fiesta Preview article

I'm 6' tall and I find the front leg room fine so I assume you are talking about the rear seat leg room? If so, I do agree that is pretty slim and not fit for adults unless the driver and front...

Re: 2011 Ford Fiesta Preview article

I just purchased a Fiesta a week ago and traded in my 06 FEH for it. Ihave to completely disagree with Frodo's assessment of ride and noise in the Fiesta. I'm getting 40MPG and it's a BLAST to...

Re: About to buy my first Hybrid

The adapter may be rated at 1.5A max, but not many notebooks draw the full rating of the AC adapter even if you're using them AND charging the battery at the same time. Most battery charging is...

Re: Replaced my tone ring - shop notes.

Thanks for the info guys. I'm going to look around and see what the local mechanics want to do the job. I need one of mine replaced now on my '06 FEH with 114K.

Re: Michelin vs. Continental Tire question

I replaced my stock Eco-Plus with the Latitude Tour's back in December. I had 94K on the Conti's and I probably had at least another 10-15K before they were down to the wear indicators. I replaced...

Re: 2006 MMH new tires better MPG

Not to throw gasoline on this fire, but I also recently replaced my original OEM tires with the new Michelin Latitude Tours. The new tires are much better in both ride comfort and noise comfort, I'm...

Re: THE Air and Oil Filter Thread

They don't have transmissions (at least not in the conventional sense). They use a power split device that has 2 motor generators and a planetary gear arrangement.

Re: Is your SGII in a safe location?

It's still used to run all the 12V accessories, and there are more of them on these vehicles than conventional vehicles. The water pump and power steering and power brakes are all electric. The only...

Re: Is your SGII in a safe location?

Mine is a Motorcraft BXT-96R, 500 CCA. I think it's the stock battery for many Ford vehicles.

Re: Is your SGII in a safe location?

You're right, I wasn't implying that the 12V battery isn't used for anything other than the relay. I just meant to point out that the 12V battery is NOT used to actually start the ICE.

Re: Is your SGII in a safe location?

The 12V battery isn't needed to start the ICE directly. It only energizes the HV relay and the main pack runs the traction motor to start the ICE. Still a good point about always leaving it on a...

Re: Is your SGII in a safe location?

John,

I think I can back up your recommendation. I have had the 12V battery die on me twice. Both times I was unable to start the ICE because there was not enough juice left to energize the HV...

Re: How to program State Of Charge SOC on the ScanGauge

As GaryG stated, the "normal" range is 40-60%. There are special events (battery calibration and a few others) that can cause it to go outside that range. I watched mine restart the ICE within 1%...

Re: What do people think of Escape AWD?

I have an '06, bought in July '05 and now have over 80K on it. By far, the best vehicle I have ever known. The only issue I had was the rear suspension noise that was fairly common. In terms of the...

Re: Don't Try This with a Prius or Why I'm Happy with 19 MPG

OK, I know I've been absent from the forums for a good long time now, but the dual scangauge pics really got my interest, how are folks doing that? is it just a splitter cable?

I gotta know,...

You sure your garage wasn't so happy to see the new FEH that it was waving to it? :)

Re: 40+ MPG Tank with 4WD FEH!

Rich, very nice acheivement!

What was the breakdown on driving with that tank (how much city/highway/backroad)? My best with my AWD is 35MPG, that's with 70% highway, 20% backroads and 10% city....

Re: Squeaking 06 FWD FEH rear end

I got mine done on my '06 FEH back in December and haven't heard a peep out of it since. Your symptoms are exactly what I seeing, so I would definitely schedule it for the repair.

Re: Hbyrid net power output as 155 HP

But I don't think you get both at the same time. The motor and the ICE work through the power split device to give smooth acceleration. The net 155 hp feels like more because it's applied more...

Re: Performance Chip for the Hybrid Escape

Likely because they know some folks will exceed the rating, no matter what it is. I think it would do fine with a 1500 lb tow, as long as it's only occasionally.

Re: ScanGauge Mounting Location ?

I mounted mine on the steering column. I offset it a little to the right so I can still see the left display (for the avg mpg display) It does block the right display, but I don't use that one as...

Re: Anyone change the OEM Nav unit on an 06 Escape?

Another update:

Alpine just announced at CES 2007 that they will be releasing newer units, the IVA-W205 and the Blackbird B200. The cool part about that setup is that the new Blackbird actually...

Re: Cold weather causes brake failure???

Which was the same problem I had. The brakes worked but had the warnings and lack of regen.

I agree that there may be 2 different issues here.
