Re: DIY Repair of traction blend door actuator

So, out driving Saturday I got the yellow wrench and "Service Soon" message with no codes apparently set. about 81K miles on the 05 so I'm guessing I'm the latest winner in the blend door actuator...

Re: MECS Pump Replacement

The hardest part about this project was finding the bleeder valve on top of the transaxle housing.

Re: replacement GPS antenna

I do have a TomTom that works fine, I was looking to see if the in-dash (harder to steal) unit could be saved. I do have a line on one repair shop that has quoted $500 (ouch) for the job.

Re: MECS Pump Replacement

Best guess (I have not taken the old motor apart) the old motor was brushes and the new one is brushless? Motor brushes to wear out and if there's no provision to replace them it's game over...

Re: replacement GPS antenna

Well it has been a while since I posted this, but here's the update. Officially the GPS antenna part is obsolete and there's no replacement part. However, my dealer was able to locate an NOS unit...

replacement GPS antenna

The nav in our 2005 FEH has been acting up for a while. I finally got the time to look up the test procedure for the system, and sure enough the antenna is failing the self-test.

I'm having a...

Re: 12V Battery Replacement

I would expect that behavior to indicate the computer losing its memory forcing the system to relearn the calibrations, which would result in increased ICE running....

Re: Expecting a delivery...

We took delivery on August 26th and since then have driven just over 1000 miles. To date we have been able to use the Leaf for pretty much all the driving we would have been using the Prius for. ...

Re: MECS Pump Replacement

You will spend most of your time removing the splash guards and perhaps 15 minutes actually replacing the pump...may as well replace the coolant given the number of miles you have. I was not able to...

Re: Nissan Leaf....interesting

We've run the numbers and expect the Leaf will save us about $100/month over our 2002 Prius.

Re: MECS Pump Replacement

I had to look it up by part number directly. It doesn't seem to come up anywhere if you try to browse parts catalogs. I have no idea why.

Re: Expecting a delivery...

Our 2005 FEH will handle longer trips, and our small tent trailer. I expect a small uptick in its usage (we currently have less than 60K miles on it after almost 7 years), but the savings on my...

Expecting a delivery...

We took the plunge and ordered a Leaf back in May when the window re-opened. Currently the car is expected at the dealer near the 1st of September. The charging station is set to be installed this...

Re: MECS Pump Replacement

Well we have not had another failure but I ordered the pump from Silver State Ford and will be doing the replacement myself probably next weekend. They had the pump kit in stock, btw.

Re: 12V Battery Replacement

Replaced our 12v battery with a yellow-top Optima. It fits the space just fine, the posts are the only thing that makes it taller than the original Group 96R battery.

Re: MECS Pump Replacement

Sigh, well it's been a while since I've had anything to post here, but I'm at 58k miles, and lo and behold this evening I got the "High Motor Temperature" message and the over temp idiot light. ...

Re: 2010 FEH A/C compressor is electric not belt driven

But most dealer mechanics do not.

Dealership expectations for service revenues drive a LOT of what automakers do, consider the changing of service intervals from 7500 (Prius I) or 10000 (2005 FEH)...

Re: Need help replacing '05 tires

Hmm, I'm getting close on my '05 as well (about 46k miles) and was considering Nokian WRG2 as an LRR replacement with better wet traction than the Contis. We had a set of the previous WR model on...

Re: Beginning HF installation

Best practice is to run both positive and negative to the 12v battery...make sure they're both fused also, you don't want a lightning bolt (or an overhead power line) finding a route through your...

Re: Oil Filters: Fram vs. Motorcraft

WallyWorld now sells the Motorcraft filter, at least in Oregon and Washington, for very cheap price (on the order of $3).

However it appears Motorcraft has changed suppliers and the filter element...

Re: 2010 FEH A/C compressor is electric not belt driven

42 because 48 is considered "high voltage" and they'd have to retrain all the technicians.

GM tried to do this several years ago, to no avail. There's just so much automotive infrastructure...

Re: Oil Change Confusion

It could be that Ford is nervous about 0w20, but I suspect the more likely reason for the language in the manual is many people still are of the belief that heavier oil weight equals better...

Hmm, very interesting. Have they changed the oil specification from the "930-A" to something different? Ordinarily if the specification is met than everything else is somewhat academic.

I...

Re: '05 FEH shutdown

I suppose it's possible, our shutdown happened on a hot day, and I believe GaryG lives in Florida, so heat is pretty much a given!

The part number on my repair invoice was FOAZ-14N089-A and the...
