WaltPA — Although the traction motor (MG2) is capable of a high power output, the NiMH battery isn't able to supply all the current needed to enable the motor to reach its power limit. The ICE can augment the battery current via the generator (MG1) to boost the electrical power going to MG2, but this of course reduces the mechanical power that the ICE can then send directly to the wheels through the planetary-gear set (the sum of MG1's power output plus the ICE's mechanical power output equals the ICE's total power output of 133 hp maximum). The maximum power available is thus equal to the sum of the ICE's maximum power plus the NiMH battery's maximum power (and not MG2's maximum power).

Okay, I got it programmed in and have been monitoring HP. Anyone know how the reading is calculated? Hard to believe it's directly available data.

John, I haven't tried for max hp yet, but it's amazing to see that the FEH only needs 25-30hp to cruise at 65mph on a flat highway. Around town I seem to only need half of the highway hp. Very interesting XGauge.

 

Don- you are in close agreement with mine.

I have below freezing here... but I see ( generally ):

22HP @ 55 MPH
33HP @ 65 MPH
44HP @ 75 MPH

Going up the Colorado Rockies ( 7% slope, 10,000 ft elevation ) it would only take 50HP at 55 MPH.

Now why do we have so many 350 HP cars on the road????

Nice, so my 24hp vtwin ride-on mower would theoretically be able to propel a FEH on the highway at 55 mph.

 

Only the Honda, not the FEH.
