No, absolute, ABSOLUTELY NOT..!!
If the Prius or the Camry hybrid (both with VSC/Trac/etc.) isn't a " fit" then there are too many other choices that are much better than ANY hybrid.
Personally I'm holding out for a RAV4 or CX-7 hybrid, or maybe an MMH if/when they add VSC.

Maybe I missed it, but do you have a FEH?

Are you certain of that..??
I could find no mention of "VSC" on Ford.com and not only that I ran their competitive comparison, FEH against the Highlander Hybrid, and no mention was made of the Highlander's having VSC and the FEH...NOT??.....

Re: Would you recommend the Escape?
As others have mentioned (with cited proof) the '09 MMH/FEH will have VSC, why then an MMH when the FEH is the exact same vehicle with a few cosmetic changes? What are the projected release dates for the RAV-4 or CX-7 hybrids?

Re: Would you recommend the Escape?
There has been no official notice that Toyota will produce a RAV-4 Hybrid or Mazda will do the same with the CX-7.

Re: Would you recommend the Escape?
Best car I have ever owned. 4wd can go through anything.
Don't listen to the Ford or Toyota fanboys, go try it out yourself.
30 mpg in the city is just fantastic for a 4wd SUV. Also I have taken it off road and into situations where I though I might get stuck. Drove through mud and snow without a problem. Drove during a blizzard and never worried about the road conditions.
Now the 2009 has traction control AND stability control!
Check out info on the New York City Escape Hybrid cabs. They love the Escape, and you can bet that cab drivers are not easy on their cars. Here is a quote from an article below. Also the link to the article.
"Lisa Fleming, a Ford spokeswoman, says, however, that many of the company's hybrid taxis had exceeded 200,000 miles "with no battery issues"."
http://www.bt.com.bn/en/motoring/200...is_going_green
By the way, I don't have the Ford Escape. I have the Mercury Mariner Hybrid.
Oh, Just wanted to add. The transmission is made by Aisin, one of the major Toyota group suppliers.
The battery pack is made by Sanyo.
The ICE is a modified Mazda design.
This car is more of a Japanise-American car.
My 2 cents, now my comments will be torn apart by the fanboys! (If they only had a life!) LOL.

Re: Would you recommend the Escape?
I can recommend the FEH from first-hand experience, and the HiHy from several second-hand experiences.
BUT WHY DO I CONSTANTLY READ THAT FOLKS ARE SHOPPING BETWEEN THE TWO?????
It may not be obvious but they are different sized vehicles. Even the government puts them in different classes of SUV. (small vs. mid-sized).
Either you need the extra room of the HiHy or you don't. It has a third row seat!!!
As evidenced by the member reported database on this forum.....the FEH gets at least 20% better FE than the HiHY. If you don't need the capacity of the HiHy get a FEH. (If you don't need the capacity/features of the FEH, get a Prius.)

Re: Would you recommend the Escape?
RSC is NOT stability control as compared to Toyota's VSC or Porsche's PSM, nor is it compatible, in compliance, with the government mandated stability control to be implemented not later than 2013.
RSC does not address the primary stability control issues of overstearing or understearing. Does it even have traction control...???
And pardon me, but how does the issue of my not owning an FEH/MMH enter into this discussion? That does not prevent me from reading and COMPREHENDING the myriad of information available on the subject.
And, for those of you that do own an FEH or MMH, what have you learned about the vehicle as a result of ownership that you didn't already know, or wasn't available to you, via pre-purchase research??

Re: Would you recommend the Escape?
Willard,
Do you actually research anything before you post or just like to irritate with your nonsense?
RSC (roll stability control) does address the issues of under/over steer along with traction control and antilock brakes.
First you post that the FEH doesn't offer it, then that it's not stability control.
get a clue bub and go back to irritating people in your prius forum!
