Extra Cargo Space

Extra Cargo Space
Most of the time the small trunk space in the NAH isn't a problem - I use the car mainly to commute to work. But I can see some instances where more cargo space would come in handy but when I checked last year with Thule about what would fit the NAH there were no applications. I signed up for an email alert when something became available and I just received it yesterday.

Not that cheap - a box system will have a msrp of about $700.
Edit - they do sell a smaller 8 cu box - SideKick 682 - that would lower the msrp to about $560

Re: Extra Cargo Space
Thanks for posting this. I live pretty close to you (Bellingham) and we have a place in Maine near Sebago (Bridgton). In the winter we have little choice but to drive the Explorer, but we have taken the Altima up there twice (I just bought the car in January) and the fuel savings is at least double. But like you say, storage can be a problem. Now that the snow has finally melted at the camp, the Altima will be the car of choice for the trip.
BTW, I have only seen one other NAH on the roads around here (although my commute is only 16 miles RT) Have you seen any others?

Re: Extra Cargo Space
I don't know anyone else that owns a NAH. I commute on the pike and I do ocassionally see another one. Priuses, on the other hand, are like ants at a picnic.
My wife drives a Passat wagon so that's the vehicle we use when we have to haul something but at about 10 mpg less than the NAH. I assume a roof box on a NAH would lower mpg but exactly how much is a question - probably not 10 mpg - maybe about 5mpg at highway speed??

Re: Extra Cargo Space
I've seen one other NAH (also in the Boston area - Burlington, if I recall correctly), although I see a fair number of other 2007 and later Altimas on the road. Nissan has not been pushing the NAH, as far as I can tell, even though they are available locally.
The Prius is (not surprisingly) far more common. My office parking lot commonly has 3 Prii, 1 Civic Hybrid, and 1 NAH.

Re: Extra Cargo Space
Why not put a Class I hitch on (just ordered mine) and a haul box 1 1/4" shelf? Aerodynamics much better than a rooftop box. I bought mine for the Thule bike rack I have. The aluminum shelves are under $100 bucks.

I'm not quite sure what this set up you're talking about looks like. What is a "haul box 1 1/4 shelf"?
Do you have a link or photo to illustrate?
