It's much easier to drop the seats in some competitors...

It's interesting that Chevrolet is trying to compete with the Escape Hybrid (on this forum too!) using a 4-cylinder Equinox and showing similar highway mpg. Notice how the city mpg of the Equinox drops off considerably from its 32mpg peak highway mpg. I bet most of their dealers will not be well stocked with 4cyl versions anyway ("hey I have a great deal for you on a more powerful V6...")

With over 1 million Escape/Mariner/Tributes sold, it's pretty safe to say that its rear seat design isn't an important issue for a lot of buyers.
