I noticed that on the yahoo front page this morning but didn't post anything about it. It's true that there isn't actually any new info here, but it's kind of fun that it made the front page of yahoo. I like it when people publicize the possibilities of new research and technology- it keeps energy levels, excitement, enthusiasm etc. high.

But is the $10K to $12K price tag to get 100mpg worth it at this point? The answer is no. Maybe when the costs are down to $3K to $5K we all can say wow.

Cool Re: 100 MPG Hybrids

even if, & thats a big if, substantive #'s of hybrid owners purchase this 'kit' on the aftermarket @ a 'reasonable' price of 3 - 4 K, there would still b ?'s about warrenty voiding & where an owner would take the vehicle 4 scheduled maintenance / battery servicing.

i think the majority of the buying public would rather wait till the manufacturer builds this technology n2 the vehicle as original equipment & offered, possibly, as optional equipment. even so, i applaud the investigative efforts of toyata & others n this area.

Obviously the Toyota hybrid battery pack would not be under warranty by them anymore. And there is no scheduled maintenance servicing of the battery pack. It would most likely have a new warranty by the kit's manufacture. Which would most likely not match the California 10year/150,000 mile coverage.
