You will need a remote and a receiver. Use the remote to "teach" the buttons in the car and then the receiver will turn the lamp, house lights, coffee maker, or whatever on/off for you.

Don't you just need the lamp module for 12 bucks? Do you need a vehicle interface when homelink comes with the car?

No. You would need the Vehicle Interface that plugs into the wall outlet. This communicates with the car's homelink system and operates the lamp modules.

You can also use a traditional X10 transmitter to program the Homelink system (e.g., http://www.x10.com/automation/x10_mc460.htm), and a traditional X10 transceiver to receive signals from Homelink system (e.g., http://www.x10.com/automation/x10_tm751.htm).

You don't HAVE to specifically use the "Vehicle Interface".
